Marin Muirwoods – freak bike
While we’re on the subject of ‘repurposed’ bikes, we may as well cover my freak bike.
Yes I know it looks weird. 26″ wheels with road slicks on have the habit of doing that and with a carbon fork up front with masses of mud clearance it all looks a bit lost doesn’t it. And have you noticed my super long stem and risers? Not a great look but it seems to work.

Hi there – am in process of fixing up my old Muirwoods of the same vintage and am struggling to get a rigid fork for it – am scouring ebay with no joy so far. where did you pick up that 1″ steerer fork?

Search for “exotic carbon” on ebat or go straight to their website at carboncycles.cc which isd a bit cheaper. Matt’s is 1 1/4″ though I’m sure. Check their website though as they do do a 1″ fork.

Yes, my fork has the 1 1/8 inch steerer but I believe there is a 1″ version too. I recommend you go for the 42.5cm height forks as these will replicate the kind of geometry that the original bike would have had.
Mine are a couple of cms longer as I thought I might put them on my Inbred frame at some point and are definitely a compromise on the Muirwoods with the steering occassionally feeling a bit vague. I’ve now put on flat bars and a shorter stem which has made a big improvement.
Overall though, it’s a nice set-up. I’ve put some fat tyres back on and found it to be a great bike off-road if you can live with the lack of suspension. Just ride it with a bit more finesse…

Hey i have my old marin forks as i swapped them out for some front sus.
They are from the same vintage 1998 in the metalic light blue..
